REPORT: Funeral held for MP Ali Eid’s brother following Akkar shooting incident

A funeral was held on Tuesday for the brother of former deputy Ali Eid, Badr Eid, who died after having sustained a gunshot wound in the Akkar town of al-Kuweikhat. He was admitted to the Rahhal hospital.

Eid’s family mourned the victim on the Syrian side of Akkar's Hekr al-Daher region and the convoy has yet to return.

The Lebanese Armed Forces took preemptive measures and cut-off the Mankoubeen-Qobbeh road in Tripoli after the security apparatuses rushed to the scene and launched an investigation into the incident.

“Badr was heading from Qobayyat to his town (Hekr al-Daher) and as soon as he passed by the Kuweikhat town, he was ambushed and shot in the head,” sources told LBCI on Tuesday.

“Badr Eid lost control over the vehicle which collided with the residence of Kuweikhat’s mayor, Omar al-Hayek,” the sources said, adding “the Honda vehicle he was driving was his daughter’s”.

Al-Kuweikhat municipal chief Omar al-Hayek announced, following a meeting at his residence, that the town's dignitaries condemn the attack, saying the residents “have nothing to do with a threat letter circulated on social media platforms granting Ali Eid's relatives a 10:00 pm ultimatum to leave Akkar."

Hayek also urged the security apparatuses to unveil the circumstances of the attack and “prosecute the ones who disseminate such seditious statements that seek to undermine civil peace”.
