REPORT: Internal Security Forces kick off implementation of newly set traffic law

The Internal Security Forces kicked off Wednesday the implementation of the newly set traffic law across various Lebanese regions, pointing out that the goal of the new law is to cut the number of road related accidents by half by 2020.

The first day of implementation entailed the distribution of booklets that explain the details of said law in a bid to raise awareness.

It is worth noting that the awareness phase will last 6 days.

Lebanese citizens have thus far met the law with contempt saying that they have yet to be informed of the details of the new law save for the large fines that would be implemented.

Drivers expressed frustration at the new legislation, stating that people do not know about its details and there hasn’t been enough information given to help drivers learn to abide by its rules or realize its importance.

They also said that the government should not just implement new laws for people, stressing that roads, signs and street lighting need to be fixed as well.

In this regard citizens cut off the road to Tripoli’s Bab al-Hadid neighborhood to protest the controversial law.
