Head of the Change and Reform bloc MP Michel Aoun declared Friday that the solution to the current constitutional crises lies within three options: the election of a president directly by the people, holding a popular referendum based on which the parliament will choose a new head of state or electing a a new president from among the Christian leadership with the highest representation.
He added that parliamentary elections based on a new and balanced electoral law must be held before the election of a president, stressing that he will not accept a repeat of the Doha agreement.
In a press conference held in Rabieh, he said that Christians in Lebanon are paying the price of all problems facing the nation, although they [the Christian community] represent stability and moderation, pointing out that their proper representation was reduced due to electoral laws that are inconsistent with the constitution and the national pact.
“Lebanon has been witnessing since 1990 a governance crisis due to lack of cooperation and balance between the different factions of the Lebanese community,” he stated.
On another note, Aoun criticized the cabinet for failing to make decisions and approve draft laws during the sessions, adding that this failure has led to the further deterioration of the state.
