REPORT: Environment Min Mashnouq declares winners of waste management tenders
Environment Minister Mohammad al-Mashnouq declared Monday the winners of the waste management tenders for Beirut and other regions, noting that this was the first time that a tender as large and as geographically wide as this one takes place in Lebanon.
 
In a press conference held following the meeting of the Council for Development and Reconstruction, the minister declared the companies that won the tenders for each region in Lebanon, listing them as follows:
 
- Beirut: Lavajet Group
- Chouf, Baabda, Aley: Riad Assaad company
- Bekaa: Jihad al-Arab company
- North: Batco
- Metn, Kesserwan and Jbeil: Indevco
- South: Cherif Wehbe
 
In this context, the minister said that the companies’ work in each region will be supervised by the concerned municipalities and civil society associations, adding that the landfills issue will be discussed during Tuesday’s extraordinary cabinet session.
 
Regarding the al-Naameh landfill, Minister al-Mashnouq said that “we would be grateful if the residents of al-Naahmeh agree to the reopening of the landfill for 6 months... if not we will have to look for another.”
