Introduction to the evening news 03-10-2012

Weapons caches explode in Nabi Sheet, car bombs target Aleppo, mortar shell penetrates the Syrian-Turkish border, not to mention the ongoing killing across Syria, constitute today’s outcome.          

In Nabi Sheet, the explosion left three dead and many injured. While journalists were prevented from approaching the scene, Hezbollah issued a statement, declaring that the explosion took place in a weapon cache, adding that the ammunition inside the depot are old and are remnants of the Israeli shelling.        

In Aleppo, five explosions shook the city leaving at least 40 people dead and more than 90 injured. However, it was not the only development on the field taking place in Syria, as it was followed by a mortar shell falling from Syria onto Turkish territory, killing 5 people and wounding nine others. This incident is the second of its kind in a span of less than one week. In this context, the Turkish deputy Prime Minister Bashir Atalay described the incident as “extremely dangerous”.           

Amid this volatility, the electoral law remains the basic concern of the Lebanese political powers. Even though everyone admits that the 2013 elections will be a Christian battle, these powers have yet to concede on a draft other than the smaller districts law or the Orthodox gathering’s proposal; both considered as a “dangerous joke damaging the foundations of the republic.”
