REPORT: Syrian filmmakers have a share in the conflict ripping through their country

20 days after the abduction of Syrian sound engineer Ghanem al-Mir, movements calling for his release have surfaced. Ghanem was kidnapped from a hotel in Tartous where he was partaking in the filming of Namocinema, a film for Mohammad Malas.

The first move was the signature of a petition by a number of Arab and Syrian artists including Syrian directors Mohammad Malas and Arwa Nayrabiya, Lebanese director Maher Abi Samra and Palestinian director Elia Sleiman. The petition called for the disclosure of al-Mir’s current whereabouts.

In a message, director Mohammad Malas spoke about "the pleasure to work with Ghanem al-Mir" and praised his professionalism.

Ghanem al-Mir was taken by government forces on October the 2nd and there have been no news about him ever since.
