Patriarch Rai: Pope Francis visit is blessing for people, a hope for country, and a warning to officials-[VIDEO]

Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai presided on Sunday over Palm Sunday mass in Bkerke.

 
During his sermon, Patriarch Rai said that the expected visit of Pope Francis to Lebanon “is a blessing for the people, a hope for the country, and a warning to officials.”
 
He also stated that Pope Francis wants Lebanon to have good governance and a political community that prioritizes the public interest above all else.
 
“He is aware of the failure to respond boldly and seriously to the concerns of the people, as well as the state's reluctance to participate in international endeavors,” he continued.
 
“We expect the government and Parliament to expedite the approval of the agreement's implementing laws and to carry out the agreed-upon reforms as a basis and condition for receiving the necessary funds,” he said related to the initial agreement with the International Monetary Fund.
 
“While we await reforms that protect the interests of the Lebanese people, particularly depositors, safeguard the unique features of the free Lebanese economic system, and demonstrate the seriousness and credibility of the Lebanese state,” he added.
 
He concluded by praising the return of the Gulf ambassadors to Lebanon.
