Introduction to the evening news 23-12-2012

Lebanon, a country divided between two political rival groups has once again exemplified corruption on a whole new level.                 

In the absence of the state’s prestige, and with attempts to weaken its unified reference, corruption and bribery made their way to the football scene away from their usual political hubs.                   

Lebanese football players were subject to inducements and financial bribes all for the purpose of controlling results causing the loss of the Lebanese National team.

This seems to replicate the acts of ‘Lebanese division leaders’ who are causing losses grave enough to send the country over to the edge.                       

Perhaps this is the price that was set as a penalty for the Lebanese national football team which failed to form a unique expanse to unite over one national icon and over a victory which was intended for the team as a whole.                           


Never did the words of MP Walid Jumblatt ring more true than they did today when he described in an interview published in An-Nahar Daily the March8 and March14 camps as a “destructive dualism politically, economically, and socially.”                     


Maybe the answer is related to the ballot boxes with predictions stating massive scandals from hereon until then whether they be on an economic, social or even athletic level.           


Yesterday witnessed the remarks of Ministers who expressed what many viewed as racist stances toward the displaced Syrians and Palestinians in Lebanon and today, a sample of the ever so blatant state of corruption in a country that has left its sports scene in a blunder over its credibility and sportsmanship.
