REPORT: Hariri-Murr "dance" threatens media freedom

During the second episode of Dancing With The Stars TV show broadcasted on MTV, Singer May Hariri was eliminated after receiving the lowest number of votes.   Once the show ended, Hariri delivered statements in which she attacked the TV station and its chairman Michel El Murr.

The days that followed, the media institutions published Hariri's statements. Accordingly, Murr sought the interim relief judge to issue a prior restraint prohibiting LBCI, Al Jadeed and OTV from tackling this topic.

LBCI responded to Murr's step and stated that this legal action is formally wrong.

It was later announced that the judge banned Al Jadeed TV from tackling this topic.

It seems that the freedom of press and media in Lebanon has to face a new obstacle created by a media institution who should be protecting and promoting this freedom.
