Introduction to the evening news 30-12-2012

In numbers, over 170,000 displaced Syrians are registered in Lebanon and this number is expected to reach 300,000 in the next phase.

Also in numbers, over 550 Syrian children were born in Lebanon since the beginning of the crisis as many Syrian mothers were pregnant when they fled their torn country.

These “humanitarian numbers” will be the first issue to be discussed during the first cabinet session in 2013 especially that nothing shows that the Syrian crisis is on its way to be solved. In fact, Reuters reported that Syrians are digging graves expecting increasing numbers of victims. As for international envoy Lakhdar Brahimi, he drew a dim picture of the situation in Syria, calling for external help to urge the conflicting parties to sit at a dialogue table. “We have a suggestion and I think that it will be adopted by the international community”, he said without giving further details.

In Lebanon, all issues are suspended until after New Year’s.
