FPM leader Bassil intended to send bulk of messages to ally Hezbollah

The head of the Free Patriotic Movement, Gebran Bassil, intended to send bulk messages in his talk on Sunday with LBCI to the closest allies before opponents, and in particular to his ally Hezbollah.

Bassil outlined the roadmap for any dialogue with others, especially Hezbollah, after the dispute over the constitutionality of holding government sessions in light of a caretaker administration and went as far as to discuss the presidential vacuum.

However, at first, Bassil was keen to clarify the confusion between him and Hezbollah, with the latter thinking that Bassil implied Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah personally in his first position after the government session.

This clarification received a positive reception from Hezbollah in terms of opening the door to communication between the two allies, bearing in mind that circles close to Hezbollah confirm that communication has not been interrupted and will not be interrupted. 

But what dialogue are the two sides talking about?

The FPM will keep the ceilings high, especially since what happened in the cabinet meeting affected the partnership of an essential component. Bassil is convinced that Caretaker PM Mikati would not have done what he did in the session had it not been for Hezbollah and Amal's cover.

Therefore, Bassil was evident when he said that the Mar Mikhael memorandum, the FPM's alliance with Hezbollah, and its participatory and practical concept are at stake and that the solution is as follows:

- Mikati's return to what he committed to before the parliament, in terms of consulting with the components participating in the government, to agree on holding a government session.

- Adopting the mechanism of the government meeting by consensus of its members, not by a two-thirds majority, and issuing decrees with the signatures of all ministers.

- Bassil specified that the decrees that were issued have to be retracted, or they have to be corrected. 

So will Hezbollah contribute to pressure in this direction?

Presidentially, the FPM leader specified that neither Sleiman Frangieh nor the army commander was a starting point for any dialogue. Bassil added that he approves of a dialogue about a third candidate from outside the alignments who can link internally and externally and keep pace with political and economic challenges.

In the media and through private channels, Hezbollah has become aware of the position of Bassil and the constants based on which he talks.

However, on all of the preceding, the circles close to Hezbollah considered that Bassil's objection to Mikati's performance and the cabinet meeting issue is a detail compared to his refusal to nominate former MP Sleiman Frangieh for the presidency.

Bassil explicitly said he rejects "a Frangieh or no one equation" and "a Frangieh or LAF commander equation."

It is as though he is telling Hezbollah: "The relationship will return to normal when we agree on a third name for the presidency, and he is ready for any discussion about the third option." But the most crucial question is, is Hezbollah ready to discuss a name of a third presidential candidate?

When asking this question, the answer from Hezbollah is short: "Hezbollah will not talk about this issue specifically today. At least in public, it will not delve into its opinion, position, and names."
