Private schools teachers' strike could jeopardize academic year

Will private schools open on Mondays, or will the closure, which began with the holidays, be prolonged and will continue due to a teachers' strike?

There has been no clear answer, as the teachers' demands have not been met.

The Teachers Syndicate presented their demands again to the Minister of Education in the caretaker government, Abbas al-Halabi, who promised to work to find solutions.

The head of the Teachers Syndicate, Nehme Mahfoud, threw the ball back to the court of the Prime Minister, the Parliament, BDL and the banks. Mahfoud called on PM Mikati to adopt the demand for "unity of legislation" between public and private school teachers. Private school teachers are demanding the tripling of their salaries, just like the public sector.

Even if Mikati adopted this item, its implementation is in private schools, whose sources confirmed that they are working to improve teachers' incomes within what is available to each school's administration and through foreign aid. However, today, school administrations cannot triple monthly salaries.

As for the issue of teachers benefiting from the Sayrafa exchange platform and the end-of-service cheques, sources at BDL have confirmed that the Central Bank has no ability today to open the way for the private sector to benefit from salaries through the Sayrafa platform.

Banking sources have confirmed that there is no issue with depositing checks for those who already have accounts in banks before the crisis.

However, opening new accounts and depositing old bank cheques is impossible, especially since these accounts will receive the treatment of new accounts in the bank restructuring plan.

Thus, there is no clarity in the picture, so is there a settlement that guarantees the continuity of the current academic year in all schools?
