REPORT: Will non-Christian allies agree on the Orthodox gathering draft law?

 
After being the first to adopt it months ago, the Lebanese Forces are back today to adopt the same law, the Orthodox Gathering draft law, seemingly since everyone rejects the 1960’s electoral law.            

Sources close the sub-parliamentary committee said that the Orthodox Gathering draft law was launched upon the request of the Maronite Patriarch Bechara Boutrous Rai.             

In this context, the Free Patriotic Movement assured that its allies will agree on this law upon a parliamentary meeting with them.                  

For his part, MP Alain Aoun said to LBCI that the electoral law based on 15-electoral districts is still under consideration at our meetings in Bkerki and added that there is no consensus on the small electoral districts' law.                  

The Orthodox gathering electoral draft as well as other draft are to be discussed in the meeting of the sub-parliamentary committee and Christians are to face their allies with a law that best serves them.


The patriarch addressed the Chief and Members of the Sub-Parliamentary Committee tasked with discussing the electoral law and urged them to agree on an electoral law that serves all the components of the Lebanese society else than that of the 1960’s seemingly since it "marginalizes a large segment of the Lebanese nationals"
