REPORT: Campaigns promoting civil marriage in Lebanon continue

After the absolute rejection of Grand Mufti Mohammad Rashid Qabbani to civil marriage, more than 11,000 Lebanese citizens joined a facebook page that calls for the legalization of civil marriage in Lebanon.

The supporters decided to take it to the streets and organized a demonstration that will be taking place on Monday at the Nejmeh Square in Beirut Down Town.

On April 13th 2013, the commemoration day of the Lebanese Civil War, the advocates of civil marriage will be celebrating the marriage of the first couple to ever sign a civil marriage contract in Lebanon at Martyrs Square in Beirut.

Meanwhile, An-Nahar Daily published an article in which it mentioned figures showing that Lebanese couples spend approximately $ 2 Million every year to hold a civil marriage in foreign countries, mostly in Cyprus.
