A tale of hope: Christmas amid sadness in Palestine

In an area not exceeding one square kilometer, the three religions—Judaism, Christianity, and Islam—converge.

It is the old city of Jerusalem, the cradle of the monotheistic religions, where churches, mosques, and synagogues coexist.

Why do we tell you about Jerusalem especially during this period?

This city means a lot to Christians who celebrate Christmas during this month.

However, this year, the celebrations will be somber and different due to the war in Gaza.

The Christian churches in Jerusalem have agreed to cancel the celebrations in a message of solidarity from the heads of the Christian churches in Jerusalem. The Christmas tree will be absent from the city, as well as from the square of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem.

Why does Palestine mean a lot to Christians?

The reason is obvious: Christ was born in a cave in Bethlehem, was crucified and rose again in Jerusalem.

In Jerusalem, there is the Church of the Resurrection, the tomb of Christ, the tomb of the Virgin Mary, and the olive grove where Christ prayed on the night of his agony.

Despite the sadness that will envelop Palestine during Christmas, it is a celebration of hope and anticipation for a new birth for the people of Gaza and all those suffering from this deadly war.
