REPORT: Russian airplane provides displaced Syrians with food

A Russian airplane loaded with humanitarian aid arrived on Wednesday to the Beirut International Airport in a bid to provide the displaced Syrians with food in numerous Lebanese areas.             

Speaking to reporters at the airport, the Russian Ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Zasypkin indicated that his country is seeking to satisfy the heavy load incurring upon the Lebanese in terms of the massive influx of displaced Syrians in Lebanon.        

"On this occasion, I would like to reiterate Russia's unswerving stance in favor of a political solution to the Syrian conflict, through ceasing violence and carrying out dialogue between the Syrian authorities and opposition, in compliance with the Geneva Declaration," he said.              

In response to a question about who is going to benefit from the aid, Zasypkin made it clear that Russia does not differentiate between the Syrian people in terms of aid distribution. "This is a humanitarian affair to us," he stressed.                         

On the Lebanese local situation, Zasypkin highlighted the necessity of holding the upcoming parliamentary elections.                 

As to the formation of a new cabinet, the envoy said that this is an internal domestic affair, hoping that foreign sides would encourage all parties in Lebanon to reach common grounds in this regard.       

The U.N. estimates more than 1.1 million Syrians have fled, mainly to Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey, noting that over four million others have been displaced inside their war-torn country.       

Lebanon has sheltered around 360,000 refugees fleeing the brutal crisis and violence in their country, according to the U.N.'s refugee agency.
