REPORT: Powership Fatmagul Sultan to soon reproduce energy

    
The Turkish Karadeniz power company said on Thursday that the laboratory results showed that the fuel used in the generators of Fatmagul Sultan powership did not match the required standards of the ship.

The company noted that it cooperated with the Lebanese Ministry of Energy and Electricite du Liban (EDL) to reach a solution in this regard.

The company added that Electricite du Liban is currently exerting efforts to provide the powership with the appropriate fuel in order to produce power.

It asserted that such "technical problems" can occur in powerships, noting the importance of the swift detection of such problems, noting that a second powership will arrive soon to Lebanese shores to produce energy as stated in the contract inked with the concerned Lebanese authorities.

Caretaker Energy Minister Gebran Bassil stressed that the issue of the Turkish powership Fatmagul will be resolved soon, noting that Electricité du Liban (EDL) will not pay for the reparation of the malfunction.

Bassil made his remarks during a press conference held to launch a smartphone application within the campaign aiming at removing the violations targeting the electricity sector.

Last week, ten out of eleven generators on the Turkish powership “Fatmagül Sultan” stopped working, leading the power supply in Lebanon to return to its former state prior to the arrival of the Turkish ship.

In this context, reports stated that the reason behind this malfunction is the incompatibility of the fuel used for the generators.

Meanwhile, sources revealed to LBCI that an agreement was inked between the Ministry of Energy and the Fatmagul's Leasing Company stating the following:

1- Clarification of the specifications of the fuel oil since these specifications were not stated clearly in the contract.

2- Commitment of the leasing company to repair all failures which may occur on the powership.

On another note, President Michel Sleiman's request from the Central Inspection Authority to probe the reasons of the malfunction of the “Fatmagul Sultan” powership was referred to the premiership.

President Sleiman tasked the authority on Tuesday to reveal the circumstances that led to the malfunction and determine the sides responsible for it.
