REPORT: Origins and effects of nerve agent Sarin, a deadly gas allegedly used in Syria

Reports emerged stating that UN human rights investigators have gathered testimony from casualties of Syria's civil war and medical staff indicating that rebel forces have used the nerve agent Sarin.

This type of gas was originally developed in 1938 in Germany as an insecticide, but at the end of World War II the Soviet Union obtained this colorless and odorless gas and started using it as a chemical weapon. It was also used in Tokyo killing 11 people and injuring 5500 and in Iraq by Saddam Hussein during his war against the Kurds in 1988 killing hundreds of people.

This report will give a wider look at the origins of the nerve agent Sarin and its effects on humans and animals when exposed to it.
