REPORT: Constitutional expert's point of view on the parliamentary elections

Constitutional expert Hassan el-Rifai asserted to LBCI on Thursday that the proposal submitted by Caretaker Minister Nicolas Fattouche to extend the mandate of parliament for two years is "not constitutional."

El-Rifai added that the technical extension of the parliament's mandate for a short term is legal should the parliament agree on a new electoral law.

He called on President Michel Sleiman, Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Salam to form a new government as per the regulations of the constitution.

This report will shed light on the constitutional expert's point of view in regard to the electoral file.
