[VIDEO] Pilot Reveals Details Behind Viral 'Terrifying' Landing Video
A pilot was captured on video landing a Boeing 777 under horrendous conditions for Royal Dutch Airlines during the worst July storm of the century to strike Amsterdam Airport, Schipol.

To an untrained eye, it looks like the plane came very close to crashing as it diverged and shook in the wind.

The landing was captured in a video and uploaded to YouTube on Saturday.

It's been dubbed a terrifying ordeal. However, pilot, blogger and author Patrick Smith wasn't amazed by the clip.

"This is typical of the way these things are portrayed by the Internet and sensationalized," he explains.

"It looks fairly dramatic, but it was not dangerous," he added.

“Pilots are trained to land at an angle, so the wheels closest to the wind land first. That helps stop the wind from pushing the plane sideways across the runway,” he says.

“Pilots are trained to abort landings if they feel unsafe, and they don't lose face among the crew for doing so,” he concluded by saying.
