"There are threats against Lebanon and as long as the deteriorating security situation in Syria remains the same, the situation here will remain as such," caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said on Tuesday, adding that all rumors about car bombs are not necessarily true.
Charbel told Asharq al-Awsat newspaper that rumors about the presence of booby-trapped cars are spread across Lebanon, not only in the Beirut southern suburbs.
When the security apparatuses receive information about car bombs, they assume their responsibilities in this regard, he said, noting that they were able to arrest a number of suspects and thwart operations before being implemented.
He added however that the security apparatuses were unable to foil all operations.
Sources close to the Free Patriotic Movement said Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun will announce an important position on Tuesday following the bloc's weekly meeting.
The same sources confirmed to Al-Joumhouria daily late on Monday that the cabinet formation process remains stalled, noting that no progress has been achieved.
"The formation of a new government should be based on rules and constitutional aspects must be honored," the sources said, adding that national partnership should not remain ink on paper.
Sources close to Hezbollah told Al-Joumhouria newspaper on Tuesday that terrorist operations cannot be controlled since more than 10 thousand vehicles enter the Beirut southern suburbs on a daily basis.
"The Haret Hreik and Bir al-Abed regions are mainly targeted since they represent Hezbollah strongholds," the sources said, noting that suicide bombers are able to hit others areas but they want to say they are targeting the group's strongholds.
"This war is harder than the war against Israel. In fact, the enemy is present on the Lebanese territories whereas Israel is an 'external enemy'," the sources added.
Caretaker Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour replied to his opponents who criticized him for the speech he delivered at the Geneva 2 conference whereby he supported Hezbollah's participation in Syria, stressing that his speech has represented all the Lebanese.
In a question directed at Mansour over whether his speech was in agreement with the Lebanese political authority headed by President Michel Sleiman, Manour said: "This is an internal affair, the speech represented all the Lebanese people".
Mansour also told Al-Hayat daily that he cannot label Hezbollah a terrorist group, and said: "It was unacceptable to describe the Resistance a terrorist at the Geneva conference".
He also noted that the Resistance had liberated the South and defended Lebanon's independence, adding that calls to withdraw fighters from Syria should include all parties without any exception.
