Member of the “Kataeb” parliamentary bloc MP Elie Marouni stressed that the explosion of Daher al-Baydar is a new terrorist message, which proves that security in Lebanon is still fragile and that terrorism is stronger than the state’s precautionary measures.
In statement to
al-Joumhouria daily, Marouni noted that Friday’s incident ended the tourism season awaited by the Lebanese people, urging the deputies to elect a new president as soon as possible, “because the presidential vacuum has been negatively reflecting on the security situation.”
In this regard, the MP held all the parties hindering the electoral process responsible for the current chaos, calling on the security apparatuses to strike with an iron fist and unveil all the crimes and their perpetrators.
Speaker Nabih Berri said that all the parties are aware that the security solution is not enough to resolve the current issues.
“Just like the political decision taken to form a new cabinet has contributed to an ease in the security tension, a political solidarity must be reached in order to revive the public institutions, especially the presidency, the Parliament and the cabinet,” Berri told
as-Safir newspaper.
The speaker noted that the national efforts deployed to fight terrorism show that all the parties have sensed the importance of their responsibilities.
Information Minister Ramzi Jreij supported holding a cabinet session anytime soon in order to discuss the challenges faced by Lebanon, stressing the need to find means to unveil all terrorist networks and restore stability.
In a statement to
al-Liwaa daily, Jreij said that the country's security is not exposed, thanks to the security plan implemented by the security forces across the Lebanese regions.
“Lebanon has witnessed stability that was violated by Daher al-Baydar explosion,” he noted.
In this regard, Jreij stressed that the said explosion is a repercussion resulting from the events taking place in Iraq and the ongoing war in Syria.
The Director General of the General Security, Major General Abbas Ibrahim stressed that the Daher al-Baydar explosion took place at around 200 meters away from his convoy.
Ibrahim told
al-Hayat newspaper that he was heading to the Masnaa crossing point at the border with Syria, then he was planning on going to Zahle to inspect a General Security center in the Bekaa, but had to return to Beirut.
