PM Salam says backs prisoner swap to release the kidnapped troops in Arsal

Prime Minister Tammam Salam told al-Hayat newspaper on Sunday that he backs the principle of prisoner swap to ensure the safe return of the kidnapped troops in the border town of Arsal.

Salam revealed that he asked the help of the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in this regard.

He also noted that the mediation efforts are ongoing via the Qatari delegation.

On another note, Salam stressed that he also asked during the annual gathering of the 193-nation United Nations General Assembly in New York the help of France, Iran and Vatican to hold the presidential elections in Lebanon.

Al-Nusra Front is preparing to overrun Tripoli-sources

Sources told al-Seyassah newspaper on Saturday that the al-Nusra Front is preparing to overrun the northern city of Tripoli.

The same sources added that an extremist group formed of about 300 Lebanese and Syrian armed men is based in Tripoli's Bab al-Tebbaneh neighborhood and is affiliated to the al-Nusra Front.

According to the daily, the sources concluded by saying that the group received 200 explosive devices in order to carry out terrorist activities against the Lebanese army.
