Social Affairs Minister Rashid Derbass stated on Wednesday that the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees will specify Lebanon’s share from the $3.8 billion that were pledged by international donors to tackle the humanitarian crisis in Syria.
Derbass told An-Nahar newspaper that Lebanon will specify 37% of this share for internal plans that are related to the continuous influx of refugees into the Lebanese territories.
Sources from March 8 and March 14 reported to Al-Akhbar newspaper that different positions related to the situation in Yemen will not have a negative impact on the work of the cabinet.
In this regard, the newspaper noted that Prime Minister Tammam Salam briefed various ministers, including telecommunications minister Boutros Harb, on the position of the Lebanese cabinet regarding the situation in Yemen.
The same sources emphasized that extending the mandate of security officials might hinder the work of the cabinet, adding that the Free Patriotic Movement will reject the extension of their mandate.
Following the third donor conference that was held in Kuwait, sources quoted Prime Minister Tammam Salam as saying that he is relieved, adding that he held various meetings on the sidelines of the conference.
The sources told An-Nahar newspaper that PM Salam sensed Kuwait’s keenness on Lebanon’s stability and security, adding that Lebanese officials were clear when presenting their demands to aid the refugees in Lebanon.
Prominent sources reported to Al-Mustaqbal newspaper that members of the Islamic State are still controlling various neighborhoods in Iraq's Tikrit.
The sources added that the battle for Tikrit will be militarily ended on Wednesday, noting that Iraqi forces were able to control great parts of the region where 400 members of the Islamic State are located.
