Lebanon News
Lebanon’s southern borders witnessed on Monday significant tensions after Israel shelled the Shebaa farms following Israeli reports of a “security incident” in south Lebanon.

This as Reuters quoted Lebanese sources familiar with the incident saying that Hezbollah carried out an operation against the Israeli military in the Shebaa farms, while Israeli media outlets denied information about casualties being reported due to the incident.

This as the Israeli army shelled the vicinity of Rouwaisat al-Alam in the occupied Lebanese area of Kafar Shuba andresidents along the border with Lebanon to stay inside their houses.

Later on, the Israeli army said that it had foiled an infiltration attempt by an armed squad along the border with Lebanon, adding that there is no injuries among the Israelis.

In his first comment after the incident, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that “the Israeli army is prepared for all scenarios.”

Reuters also said that Hezbollah’s operation comes as a response to an Israeli attack in Syria which killed one of its fighters last week.

In turn, UNIFL’s spokesman said that its command is contacting both sides to evaluate the situation and contain tensions, calling on both sides to exercise restraint.

For its part, Hezbollah is expected to issue a statement about the operation.

Later on, Hezbollah issued a statement in which it said that it did not try to infiltrate the Lebanese-Israeli frontier or that it had engaged in clashes in the disputed Shebaa Farms area.

However, the armed party said that the response to the killing of one of its fighter last week is "definitely coming."
