The city of Bristol is preparing to launch a new-concept vehicle on March 25, which is powered entirely by locals’ poop, processed into fuel, as part of an ambitious environmental campaign.
The Bio-Bus plans to fuel up at a sewage treatment where human waste and inedible food is converted into biomethane, according to GENeco, which is overseeing the recycling process.
According to First Group, the bus, which has 40 seats, will operate four days a week with the help of more than 32,000 households whose waste gets processed at the Bristol sewage plant.
The bus will help improve air quality, will actually be quieter than other public vehicles and won’t exude any odors, the Telegraph reported.
“It’s very hard to get people to believe in the whole recycling ethic, but when they actually see that their waste is powering this vehicle, it will make them look at the whole concept differently,” Colin Field, who works at the Bath Bus company, told the Telegraph.
