Turkey's Önhon summons US envoy over leaks

Turkey summoned on Wednesday the United States’ charge d’affaires to Ankara, Jess Baily, days after reports emerged of covert US surveillance of Turkish missions.

The claims that appeared in European media in regards to the wiretapping of 38 diplomatic missions by the U.S. National Security Agency are concerning, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

In this regard, the Turkish Foreign Ministry Deputy Undersecretary Ömer Önhon summoned the Washington envoy in order to reiterate the demands of Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmed Davutoglu for the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.

On the 2nd of July, Davutoglu asked Kerry for an explanation concerning the said scandal on the sidelines of an Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ (ASEAN) meeting in Brunei.
