Hagel says USA will not cut off aids to Egypt

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel voiced on Wednesday his rejection of cutting off U.S. military aid to Egypt, adding that Washington would keep pressing for "reconciliation" in Egypt.

Earlier this month, the United States condemned Egyptian security forces for shooting at protesters supporting ousted president Mohammed Morsi, killing some 1,000 people.

Hagel did not rule out the possibility of cutting off the flow of $1.3 billion in annual military aid to Cairo, stressing however the importance of maintaining the alliance with Egypt.
