US Secretary of State John Kerry said on Friday he expected nuclear talks with Iran to resume in the coming days, saying progress had been made and that consultations were now needed.          

Kerry was speaking after diplomats said Iran had interrupted technical discussions with six world powers in Vienna over how to implement a deal whereby Tehran would cap its nuclear programme in return for limited sanctions easing.        

"We have been hard at it in Vienna ... we are making progress but I think that they're at a point in those talks where folks feel a need to consult and take a moment," Kerry said during a visit to Israel. "There is every expectation that the talks are going to continue in the next few days and that we will proceed to the full implementation of that plan."

Iran and six world powers have ended expert-level talks in Vienna on Tehran's nuclear program and expect to meet again soon to resume their work, the European Union said on Friday.
    
"Reflecting the complexity of the technical issues discussed, it became clear that further work is needed," said Michael Mann, spokesman for European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton.
    
He said there would be consultations in capitals and talks were expected to continue soon.
    
Experts from Iran and the six powers talked for four days to try to work out exactly how to implement last month's breakthrough deal for Tehran to curb its nuclear program in return for limited sanctions easing.

This as a European Parliament delegation arrived in Iran, the first visit to Tehran by the EU's legislative institution in more than six years.
 
Iran's official IRNA news agency said the eight-member delegation will stay until Wednesday. The delegation will meet Iranian lawmakers and officials, as well as dissident filmmaker Jafar Panahi and human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh who jointly won the European Parliament's prestigious Sakharov prize in 2012.
