New Zealand family plans 'beautiful sights' tour for son going blind

A New Zealand mother said she and her family are taking her 12-year-old son to see the world's most "beautiful images" before he goes blind.

The mother, Catherine Corbett, said her three sons have all been diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa which is a hereditary disorder that will eventually lead to blindness.

CNN reported on Monday that the youngest boy, Louis, found out last year that his disorder is accelerated and he will likely lose his sight much more quickly than his older brothers.

Louis could retain vision for decades.

Corbett told CNN that she and her family are planning an international tour this year to allow Louis to take in the sights of the world before he goes blind.

His mother said that destinations selected by Louis include the Empire State Building, the Grand Canyon and Niagara Falls, and mentioned that his top choice is to visit Boston to watch the Celtics play basketball.

In this regard, the chief executive officer of Boston software firm Ceiba Solutions, Warren Casey, agreed to pay for the family's trip.         

Casey said that $25,000 have been raised from the public and stated that Ceiba Solutions will pick up the rest of the bill.
