Couple name newborn Amelia, refuse internet's 1st choice: Cthulhu

A Canadian couple who decided to crowd source their daughter's name on the internet got what they expected this month.

After 150,000 cast their votes over the last three months of Alysha McLaughlin's pregnancy, the April 7 Facebook announcement read: 'All bow down to the great and powerful Cthulhu.'

Alysha and her husband Stephen were joking and chose to give their healthy little girl, the voters' second favorite name, Amelia.

The original message on the website namemydaughter.com reads the following: 'Hi, My name is Stephen and much to the disbelief of my wife, I have decided to let the internet name my daughter.'

The couple gave the voters the opportunity to give the girl her middle name, too.

As for the first name, the couple decided against the top middle moniker pick of All-Spark.

They decided instead for two middle names: Savannah Joy. The Global News states that other top 10 middle name picks were Of-The-Sea, Le-Dash-A, and Salad and Pond.

Stephen made clear in his announcement of the naming contest that not any of those choices really had a chance to begin with.

'Unfortunately internet I know better than to trust you,' Stephen wrote. 'We will ultimately be making the final decision; Alas my daughter shall not be named WackyTaco692. Sorry guys the wife wouldn't go for a free for all.'
