Million Mask March draws thousands into London streets

Comedian Russell Brand and British fashion designer Vivienne Westwood joined thousands of masked anti-capitalist protestors who descended on Westminster for a Bonfire Night demonstration, bringing havoc to the capital Tuesday night.

Riot police were on stand-by amid threats from campaign group Anonymous that the protest would create a blockade across London.

Officers were compelled to draw their batons while fireworks were let off in Trafalgar Square.

The protesters who wore masks also kicked and dragged over security railings as they chanted 'one solution, revolution'.

During the rally, demonstrators also hurled firecrackers at police who were guarding the Victoria Memorial.

The protest, known as the Million Mask March, was one of hundreds orchestrated at the same time in cities worldwide.

Protesters wearing Guy Fawkes masks - made famous in the film V for Vendetta – took to the Trafalgar Square, hoisting placards and banners, before marching towards Parliament Square at 6.30 p.m.

As of midnight, 10 persons had been arrested, including 3 on suspicion of assaulting police officers, one of a firework offense, one of attempted GBH (grievous bodily harm) and three for public order crimes.

The group said in its manifesto that it fights against austerity, mass surveillance and infringement of human rights.
