The United States does not plan to send ground forces into Libya to assist in any international peacekeeping operations following the fall of Muammar Gadhafi, Pentagon spokesman Colonel Dave Lapan said on Monday.
Lapan added that the United States believed that Gadhafi was still in Libya, but did not offer further details on his presumed whereabouts. He said U.S. surveillance sorties over Libya, as part of NATO operation, were expected to continue in the coming days.
