Iran has called on French President Nicolas Sarkozy not to make baseless statements after his calls for tougher sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program.
The Iranian State television quoted the official in charge of the Western European affairs in the Iranian Foreign Ministry as saying: “As we said over and over again, Iran's nuclear activities are purely peaceful, as confirmed by the reports of the International Agency for Atomic Energy" in response to Sarkozy’s statements during his meeting with French ambassadors on Friday. After the meeting, Sarkozy remarked that France will work with its allies to tighten international sanctions on Iran to convince it to back down from uranium enrichment.
