Fierce battles between Gaddafi loyalists and NTC

11 killed and 34 injured from the National Transitional Council fighters opposing the ousted Libyan leader Muaamar Gaddafi during heavy battles to take control of Sirte, 360km east of Tripoli.

Heavy battles raged between NTC fighters and forces loyal to Muammar Gaddafi in his hometown of Sirte, Al-Jazeera reported on Friday. The pan-Arab television station said there were many casualties among soldiers loyal to the deposed Libyan leader.

NTC fighters said they had captured a valley leading to the center of Bani Walid from Muammar Gaddafi's forces on Friday.

The desert town of Bani Walid, 180 km south of Tripoli, has been under siege for two weeks, with hundreds of die-hard Gaddafi loyalists concentrated at its center.

"We have cleared the valley leading to the city center," anti-Gaddafi fighter Talal Fernan said.
