Israel threats to take unilateral security measures

Israel sent a threat letter to the Egyptian leadership in the wake of the Sinai incident asking them to take strict and immediate measures to guarantee the security of the border region.          

Israeli PM, Benjamin Natanyahu, declared during a patrol for the Israeli leadership on Egypt's border, that the current situation in Sinai and border regions "obliges Israel to defend its security even from inside of the Sinai region."          

Israel's Army Command considered that foiling the attempt of militants who murdered the Egyptian soldiers to enter Israel is a major accomplishment to the army and its intelligence. The same army sources claim that based on previous intelligence information, they warned those in charge to take extra security measures from their side of the borders and prohibit "enemies from approaching the border lines, including Sinai’s areas". Minister of Defense, Ehud Barak, also warned about the peril of further attack attempts and considered this incident as a warning to the Egyptian leadership.          

The Israeli army announced the border regions with Egypt and Gaza as closed military regions and declared a maximum state of alertness. They also stressed on the necessity that the Egyptian leadership covers its part of the peace treaty between them and deploy 7 army brigades in Sinai.
