Yes, female circumcision is still practiced
Female genital mutilation (FGM) also known as female circumcision is still practiced in Kurdistan, causing great suffering for women.    

More than 95% of women living in a remote village in the mountains of Kurdistan have been circumcised, mostly at a young age.       

While the Kurdish Parliament ratified a law banning FGM, human rights activists stressed that this tradition was still practiced in many villages.       

In this regard, activist Souad Sherif said that female circumcision is a crime against women.       

While reports published by Human Rights Watch showed that over 40% of women and girls in Kurdistan underwent genital cutting, a glimpse of hope began to appear when a woman said that her son vowed that he will not allow that his daughters be circumcised.
