Two Jordanian peacekeepers released in Darfur

The joint African international force in Darfur (UNAMID) announced the release of two of its Jordanian military personnel after they had been kidnapped by unknown sides last August.                

UNAMID’s spokesperson Aisha Basri confirmed that the two were well. She said the peacekeepers were now on their way to Khartoum and then Jordan after their release in Zalingei, capital of the recently-created Central Darfur state.                

They went missing on August 20 in Kebkabiya town, about 140 kilometres (87 miles) west of the North Darfur state capital El Fasher.                          

Their abduction had lasted over 136 days. There has been no indication as to who may have abducted them.
