Blast rocks Aleppo as warplanes shell areas surrounding Damascus

12 people were killed in a blast which rocked the city of Aleppo in northern Syria on Friday while pro-regime troops shelled several regions in Damascus Reef using warplanes and artillery, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.     

The Observatory confirmed that the blast which rocked the city of Aleppo killed 12 people and injured dozens       

Also in Aleppo, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that a French journalist of Belgian origins was killed by sniper fire during clashes between rebels and Syrian forces near Aleppo Central Prison in Reef Aleppo.                  

The Facebook page of the "Aleppo Media Center" published a photo of the journalist's corpse.

On the border region of Ras al-Ain, activists and residents reported to AFP news agency that violent clashes erupted between pro-regime Kurdish militants and Islamists.

In turn, the Syrian state TV reported that rebels linked to al-Qaida group detonated cars filled with explosives near a mosque in southern Syria, causing many casualties.                       
The state-run TV says the suicide attacks occurred as worshipers were leaving a mosque following Friday prayers in the city of Daraa, south of Damascus.    

It was not immediately clear how many people were killed or wounded in the attacks.                       

Syrian TV blamed fighters with Jabhat al-Nusra, a group the US has declared a terrorist organization.                      

This as students from across Syria gathered on Friday in spontaneous demonstrations to denounce the attack that targeted Aleppo's University a few days ago.
