Russia raises the age of compulsory military service

Russian lawmakers voted on Tuesday to raise the compulsory military service age from 27 to 30 years as the armed conflict with Ukraine enters its eighteenth month.

The State Duma, the lower house of the Russian parliament, stated that "starting from January 1, 2024, citizens aged between 18 and 30 years will be called up for military service" following the approval of this law in the second and third readings.
