3 colonels killed in Yemen

A Yemeni military official reported on Wednesday that al Qaeda-linked suspects shot dead three colonels in an air base located in the town of Al-Anad in the province of Lahij.

The official added that Al-Anad air base was being used by US soldiers to train local forces in fighting terrorist activities.

Last year, Yemeni army backed by US drones launched an assault against al Qaeda network driving out of most of its strongholds across Yemen's south.

In 2012, al-Qaeda published a list of names of Yemeni colonels based at Al-Anad town vowing to target them as response to their airstrikes conducted against al Qaeda's hiding places.
