Germany 'concerned' as Mideast war drives up energy prices: Merz

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said Monday he was "concerned" about rising energy prices as the Middle East war sent the benchmark price for a barrel of crude soaring over $100.

"We know that this could have an impact on the German economy," Merz said, adding that the government of the biggest EU economy was already seeking to diversify its energy sources to build up its independence.
