UNESCO suspends programs until end of 2011

The general director of UNESCO Irina Bokova announced that the organization will suspend the implementation of the U.N. agency’s programs until the end of this year after the U.S. decided to halt their financial contributions following acceptance of Palestine as a member.      

Bokova said that these measures will “save $35 million”, with $30 million taken from the current fund, covering this year’s $65 million deficit.
