US State Department says sanctions do not prevent aid to Syrian people

The US State Department commented on Tuesday to some “inaccurate media reports” which claimed that US sanctions hinder the delivery of humanitarian aid to Syria.

The department clarified that the US sanctions include exceptions “that do not prevent the delivery of humanitarian, medical, food and other aid to the Syrian people.”

“We will not prevent any country from providing such aid. For our part, we will continue to provide assistance to the Syrian people,” a US State department official said.

More than 7,900 people have been killed and tens of thousands injured after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Turkey and Syria on Monday, according to officials.
