REPORT: Security forces and civil society activists clash again
Civil society activists held a demonstration on Wednesday in front the building of An-Nahar newspaper ahead of the second national dialogue session held at the parliament.
 
During the protest, confrontations flared up between security forces and civil society activists on the backdrop of removing iron barriers set up across the building of An-Nahar newspaper.
 
This as security forces arrested 40 protesters as they attempted to gain entrance to Beirut's Nejmeh Square where the Lebanese rival leaders were holding the dialogue session.
 
Young men who had been on hunger strike for two weeks were among those arrested by the security forces, including Waref Sleiman, who was the first to go on hunger strike.
 
Sleiman and other activists were later released.
 
Meanwhile, a number of protesters were also wounded by a group of men who were reportedly identified as supporters of Speaker Nabih Berri in protest against slogans launched against the speaker.
 
The Amal Movement, which is led by Berri, denied any involvement in Wednesday's incidents, urging everyone to “stay calm and avoid strife.”
 
Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Internal Security Forces reiterated via twitter its full respect to the freedom of expression and peaceful protests.
 
Earlier, relatives of abducted troops joined the activists in their movement across An-Nahar building seemingly since security forces prevented journalists from heading to the location of their protest in Downtown Beirut.
