Sub-parliamentary electoral committee meeting ends in general positive atmosphere

 
The sub-parliamentary committee tasked with discussing the electoral law commenced its meeting on Tuesday under the chairmanship of MP Robert Ghanem at the Administration and Justice Committee law in Parliament.  
          
MP Ghanem confirmed that several electoral law suggestions were discussed during the meeting, hoping that a consensus would soon be reached in light of regional and local developments.                   

Describing the general atmosphere of the meeting, Ghanem said that the discussions were dealt with in an objective and serious manner saying, “several common points emanated from opposing parties.”                   

Ghanem stressed on the necessity of maintaining the discussions discrete, calling on media outlets to help in this matter.                        

Previously,  MP Alain Aoun and upon his arrival said that "they" are seeking to speed up the approval of the Orthodox Gathering proposal in light of Christian consensus and an Amal, Hezbollah agreement. 

For his part, MP Serge Torsarkissian described the general feeling as "positive", adding that they had all come to reach an agreement over an electoral law since it will play a determining role in shaping the fate of the country for years that will follow.

Meanwhile, MP George Adwan stressed the necessity of finding an exit strategy for the electoral law issue since conducting the elections on the basis of the 1960's law is "out of the question."

During the meeting, the Kataeb MP Sami Gemayel suggested adding 2 parliamentary seats one for the Druze, and another for Syriacs.
