Beirut Imams call for toning down religious rhetoric

The Imams of Beirut mosques called on Thursday for deploying concerted efforts in order to prevent strife and to reach an agreement on the need to control the religious rhetoric in a bid to alleviate anger and extremism among citizens.

In a statement issued following the meeting of Muslim scholars in Dar al-Fatwa, the Imams stressed that the Lebanese Army guarantees Lebanon’s security and stability, urging the Army Command to deal with the Lebanese citizens with equality, to release all the detainees who did not open fire at army members, and to end the campaign of arrests and raids.
