Charbel: Engineers bear greatest responsibility for buildings

Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said that both the buildings’ owners and the municipalities bear a part of the responsibility for the control over buildings; but the most important and greatest role is played by the engineer who is constructing the building. He added that the Achrafieh disaster was a wakeup call for citizens and the residents of old and even new buildings that have some cracks. They are now more cautious to make sure the disaster does not happen again.

As to the state compensations to the residents of the buildings at risk of collapsing, Charbel told Sawt al-Mada that the government is looking into all the cases , determining the responsibilities and providing compensation if needed.
