The Lebanese Armed Forces Airborne Regiment managed to regain control over the army base of Tallet al-Hamra in Ras Baalbek, which was targeted earlier on Friday by armed groups. In turn, the Lebanese army command issued a statement, whereby it declared that one of the army locations in the mountainous regions of Ras Baalbek was attacked by a terrorist group, adding that the army forces blocked the attack with artillery, while firing at the gunmen’s gathering points and infiltration paths. In this regard, the army command urged media outlets to abstain from publishing any news containing details of the ongoing clashes. This as sources told LBCI that one LAF first lieutenant officer and one soldier were killed during the clashes, stressing that the information about losing contact with several army troops is untrue. Also, preliminary information stated that more than 10 army troops were wounded, while a military source told Agence France Press that several soldiers were killed. Also a security source told Reuters that three gunmen were killed in the gun battles. The state-run National News agency has reported earlier that fierce clashes erupted between the Lebanese army and gunmen in the mountainous regions of Arsal and Ras Baalbek, leaving casualties among the Lebanese Armed Forces and the armed groups.
