Rai holds Saint Maroun mass in Cyprus
Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai held Sunday mass in Cyprus, celebrating Saint Maroun Day, as he wished harmony for Cypriots after a visit to four Maronite villages under Turkish rule, and asserted that these Maronites symbolize the island's unity. The mass was held at Our Lady of Grace Chapel in Nicosia, and attended by the Cypriot President, Archbishop of the Orthodox Church, governmental, religious and social figures, as well as members of the Maronite community.

Turkey invaded Cyprus in 1974, after an attempted coup by the Cypriot National Guard. This resulted in the partition of the island into its current Greek and Turkish parts.

Public Relations Officer of the Maronite Bishopric of Cyprus, Antonis Skoulos, said to NNA that Rai's visit allowed many Cypriots the chance to see their occupied hometowns for the first time in many years. "The Patriarch can assist his Maronite congregation in Cyprus because of his post and his good relations with everyone."
